At 07:10 on January 8th Emily delivered our little girl, Kathryn Ealasaid Duckman, weighing 8 lbs and 10 oz and measuring 20 inches long. All parties are doing well.
She is named after her grandmothers, Kathryn Lee Benton (nee Stafford) and Elizabeth Marie Duckman (nee Chorba). She is the fourth consecutive Kathryn, after her great-granny, Alice Kathryn, her granny, and her mother, Emily Kathryn. Because we already have 1 Elizabeth, 1 Beth, 1 Betsy, 1 Liz an 2 Bettys in our families (and those are just the living ones), we decide on the Scottish Gaelic form of Elizabeth, Ealasaid (pronounced something akin to "Ell'us-etsh" or "Yah-luch-sutch"). We will both shorten and anglicize her nickname to Eala: "A" like hay and "luh" like ... luh. Just sing the chorus to "My Boyfriend's Back" by the Angels if you're still confused. Or, as someone pointed out, it is "Layla" without the first L.
We think its good luck that she arrived exactly on her due date. Will Eala always be so punctual? We can't wait to take her home to meet her brothers!
